Argument from continued existence

From Religions Wiki
"If someone writes a poem, he finishes the poem at a certain point in time and then may go do something different without the poem's ceasing to exist. The poem does not depend on the poet for its continued existence. But the poem, like everything else in the world, does depend on God for its continued existence.[1]"
"[...] no universe is possible without God upholding it.[2]"

Counter arguments[edit]

This assumes two things without basis:

  1. That things need something other than themselves to ensure their continued existence.
  2. That God is the only thing that can maintain a continued existence.

Without some evidence, this is just defining God into existence.
