The Church of the Latter-Day Dude
The Church of the Latter-Day Dude, or Dudeism for short, is a religion based on the film The Big Lebowski. The name is styled after The Church of the Latter-Day Saints, or Mormonism for short, while the philosophy is quite similar to Daoism. Their motto is "Just take it easy, man!"
Origins
The religion was founded in 2005 by journalist Oliver Benjamin, now the Dudely Lama. He was a stationed in Thailand, when he saw the 1998 Coen Brothers film "The Big Lebowski". Its main character, played by Jeff Bridges, is called "the Dude", and he personifies the ideals of The Church of the Latter-Day Dude. His favourite past-time is bowling, which is reflected in the Dudeism logo.
The Priesthood
Everybody can become an ordained dudeist priest online. Dudeist priests can preside over religious ceremonies like weddings and funerals, if accredited by local authorities.
